Put the Doubts to Bed & Breakfast is Served

No sooner had the alarm clock gone off, when my doubts began to churn.  Seriously?  This was only day two! This was bound to happen, of course.  Even small ideas can come with big hurdles.  One thing you can't ignore, though, when considering going in to business for yourself - is that if it isn't profitable, your dream may not be a practical one.  I started to question whether my Bed & Breakfast coupled with a Bakery would make any dough.  In the past, that fear would kick my aspirations right off the Bed and onto the floor.  But I was determined to take those cracked or broken eggs and whip up some good old fashioned Breakfast.  So, instead, I looked for the sunny side.

Immediately, I googled Bed & Breakfast+profitability.  Since I wanted both an Inn and a Bakery, I wanted to make sure the larger expense would be worthwhile.  The About.com website proved a treasure trove of useful information.  I had much more research ahead of me, but this was an excellent start.  I learned that even if a three to four bedroom B&B only charges $85 per night - it could still realistically take in nearly $125, 000 a year. After a mortgage, improvements and other expenses associated with the upkeep of an Inn, this wouldn't leave much to live on.  However, based on what I had seen online, I knew I could charge much more for the kind of Inn I'd create.   The B&B's I perused charged anywhere from $85 to $400 per night.  And not one of them could hold a candle to what I had in mind.

My goal would be to have the most beautiful, most charming Inn in the area.  I already have visions of the wainscoting, the vintage hard-wood floor, a crackling fireplace, the breakfast bar where I'd joyously chat with my Guests.   I could practically smell the Bakery air wafting through the Inn.  This is the kind of "perfect" place I'd sought out myself in the past...but never found.

I breathed a sigh of relief...knowing, yes knowing, this dream really CAN come true.

Sweet Dreams,
Me again
