The only baking I did this weekend occurred under the Southern California sun. With visitors in town there was zero time to spare. I basked, instead, in the love and comfort of dear friends. A great cool down after a busy couple of weeks.
My conversation with Mike (the Bakery Owner) kept wafting through my mind. He had followed up with a detailed email giving me even more information plus a generous helping of kudos and support for following my dream. What an amazing blessing to have someone with his knowledge to lend a hand in this imaginary kitchen of mine. Very sweet, to say the least. :)
At our prior meeting, I got a basic handle of what the business entails...including the fact that location serves as a major factor in not only what my price point might be (for the Inn) but in how an Inn & a Bakery might co-exist seeing as each separate business requires a unique type of setting.
The other extremely valuable tidbit Mike provided was how to equip a Bakery kitchen. His number one advice...never buy NEW. He bought all of his culinary tools through Auction. Turns out, it's a lot like buying a new car off the lot. The moment it leaves the dealership...it's value drops. In the case of Kitchen equipment...when restaurants/bakeries go out of business for one reason or another - it's instruments go up for sale at deeply discounted prices. Talk about a treat!
The icing on the cake - a referral to a Fondant-making class I could attend to fine-tune my frosting skills! Yum...
Sweet Dreams,
Me
